IT Spotlight:

VPN Required
In order to provide greater security for the systems and applications provided by the Information Technology Department, access to the mainframe from home or from other off-campus locations will require the use of the OSU VPN client beginning May 15, 2008. The OSU VPN is available at the Software Distribution Center, http://www.it.okstate.edu/sdc. For questions regarding these changes, please feel free to contact the IT Helpdesk at (405) 744-HELP or helpdesk@okstate.edu.
 
Campus Alerts for Departments
Departments now have the ability to add entries to the Campus Alert system. The Campus Alert system is used for sending emergency broadcasts to the campus community during events that pose an eminent threat to the OSU community. Now individual departments can add up to five contacts to be notified through emergency calls if such an event occurs on the OSU campus. Faxes Directly to Your Inbox
IT Telecommunications is proud to announce the ability to fax directly from your computer and receive faxes the same way. With electronic faxing, departments can choose to receive faxes through a central Web page or as an e-mail. Moving to Exchange 2007
IT is moving all OSU faculty, staff and students to the new Exchange 2007 server, the next version of Microsoft’s Exchange Server that provides advanced security and true messaging and collaboration functionality while allowing users to work from virtually anywhere. The student conversion will begin Friday, Dec. 21, while the faculty and staff conversion will take place in January. For more information, visit our Exchange 2007 information page.
 
Ruckus Offers OSU Students Free Music
Ruckus, a free and legal downloading service, is now available to all OSU students. The service features more than three million licensed songs and videos and is accessible with an @okstate.edu e-mail address. For more information, please visit: http://it.okstate.edu/students/media_download.php
 
Virtual Computer Labs
OSU now has three virtual computer labs. The IT Department created the virtual labs so that you can receive the same computer lab services online as you receive in campus computer labs. You can log into these virtual labs from any computer with an internet connection using your O-Key username and password.
